Stop thinking Matt Ryan is going anywhere. It’s not happening and no matter how hard you wish, it’s over. Great, moving on.

The Falcons still need to think of life after Ryan with the 35-year-old entering a potential buyout in 2021. Even though the franchise does have quality pieces on offense, the defense is already imploding on themselves while imploding on the field. All that sums up to be is a future rebuild in the process.

That’s the problem for Atlanta when entering draft night in April. The team doesn’t need a quarterback but rather pieces on defense, making the top three names out of the running. Still, if they want a young player with untapped potential, a sixth-round selection could get Haskins down to the ATL for some serious learning sessions with a legit franchise quarterback.

NFC. North. Detroit Lions. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 3. player. 50

Matthew Stafford is a fine quarterback. In fact, some would say for all the pain he’s endured in the Motor City, it’s time to put some respect by his name. The thing is, there’s no guarantee that if Matt Patricia remains the head coach post-2020 that he’ll keep his job.

New head coaches want to build the team in their image. However, if the draft were to end today, the Lions would be picking outside the Top 15, meaning they’re reaching for a lesser product or waiting and hoping someone falls deep into Day 2. And if Stafford is told his time in Detroit is up, there has to be at least a bridge option for the future.

Detroit’s current backup is Chase Daniel, who’s skills fit the system in a back-handed compliment type way. While Haskins is vastly unproven, he can maneuver outside the pocket, avoiding pressure from defenders while trying to connect with his target. If Stafford can teach him to be a bit more accurate, he’d be a high-end backup that could rejuvenate his career.
