Potential Tony La Russa hire already hurting White Sox with free agents
It’s looking like Tony La Russa is set to become the new manager of the White Sox, but that won’t help them land free-agent hurler Marcus Stroman.
After the Chicago White Sox decided to fire manager Rick Renteria earlier this month, reports started flying that legendary skipper Tony La Russa could be the top option to take over the club. Now, it’s looking more and more likely that the two sides will agree to a deal.
At 76 years old, La Russa hasn’t managed a team since 2011, his last campaign after a remarkable 16-year run with the St. Louis Cardinals. With three World Series titles to his name, he’s no question the owner of a brilliant baseball mind. However, it doesn’t look like free-agent pitcher Marcus Stroman likes the idea at all of Chicago bringing him to town.

The latest Marcus Stroman Twitter activity shows he’s not a big fan of Tony La Russa
For the first time in his career, Stroman is entering free agency. He’s one of the biggest names out there ready to sign with a new team, with countless clubs and fanbases dreaming about getting him to town. However, as you can see from the tweet above, it doesn’t look like the White Sox will have any chance whatsoever in landing him if La Russa is hired.
White Sox fans also don’t like the idea of a 76-year-old La Russa taking over as manager, especially given the youth on this squad. Is a man in his mid-70s, with an old school way of thinking, really going to bring out the best from the players?
While nothing has been made official yet, a La Russa hire will surely bring plenty of offseason drama for the White Sox. Stay tuned, folks.
