Tony La Russa reaching out to coaches about potentially joining him with White Sox
The Tony La Russa to Chicago rumors continue to gain steam, especially with the veteran manager already looking at assembling his coaching staff.
Could Tony La Russa be ready to make his return to the dugout? A coach with 33 years of experience, he last served as a manager back in 2011, ending an incredible 16-year run with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Despite not managing for nearly 10 years, La Russa apparently has the itch to give it another go, with the latest reports out of Chicago stating he’s on his way to taking the job with the White Sox. Wouldn’t that be something?
And, the rumors are especially heating up with the latest report stating that La Russa has already reached out to candidates to potentially join his staff with Chicago.
Tony La Russa appears to be on his way to being named the new Chicago White Sox manager
The White Sox are coming off a strong 2020 campaign, where they finished 35-25 in the shortened 60-game season. The team nearly won the AL Central but ended the year one game back of the division-champion Cleveland Indians. Their season ended with a Wild Card Round loss to the Oakland Athletics.
With plenty of young talent on the squad, Chicago is poised to compete for division crowns and to go on deep postseason runs for the years to come. With the club firing Rick Renteria, La Russa could be the one to take over the job.
Should he indeed be hired, La Russa would arrive to Guaranteed Rate Field with 2,728 wins and three World Series titles to his name. That’s quite the resume. While it remains to be seen if he’ll end up landing the position, he could be just what this young team needs to get over the top.
