Will Trevor Lawrence be back to start for Clemson vs. Notre Dame?
Trevor Lawrence is in danger of missing more than one game after reportedly testing positive for COVID-19.
The Clemson Tigers received some terrible news Thursday night. Trevor Lawrence has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 and is now forced to go into isolation according to ACC protocols.
The first focus is on his health and well-being. From a football standpoint, Lawrence is already out for Saturday’s game against Boston College. But it does not stop there because any ACC player receiving a positive test must sit out at least 10 days. That would mean Lawrence misses next week’s huge game against Notre Dame.
Lawrence likely out for Notre Dame
The only way Lawrence could return for that marquee matchup would be if he received a false positive. Even if that were the case, there is still likely not enough time to get him back this weekend.
Let’s say it is not a false positive. The timing of the test would ultimately determine if he could play against Notre Dame. However, even if the timeline is 11 days that would mean Lawrence would be out of practice the entire time and then just showing up on gameday. Could he do it? That is very likely, but it is difficult and especially so if he deals with symptoms from the virus.
Clemson is the top team in the nation and Notre Dame is close at No. 4 overall as a member of the ACC in 2020. The Fighting Irish are the best team on Clemson’s schedule and not having Lawrence could make the Tigers underdogs in the game.
Lawerence is of course a favorite to go No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft and hopefully he comes out with no complications from the virus. It is fun to dicsuss the “will he or won’t he?” surrounding a potential return to school in 2021, but this is a potentially serious situation bigger than football.
