Trevor Lawrence tests positive for COVID-19

Clemson superstar and likely No. 1 draft pick Trevor Lawrence has tested positive for COVID-19.
College football just received another blow, and it’s perhaps the biggest one we’ve across football.
According to Mike Garafolo and a number of other reporters, the most popular college football player in the country, Trevor Lawrence, has tested positive for COVID-19.
Lawerence will miss this weekend’s game, but now the most visible player in College Football has a virus that many pushed past believing was serious to ensure we had a football season. This test comes the same week Wisconsin suspended its football operations after quarterback Graham Mertz tested positive less than 48 hours after the Big Ten season debuted.
Clemson is slated to play Boston College this weekend, but that might now be in doubt if there’s a COVID outbreak inside of the Tigers locker room. Up next week is perhaps the Tigers biggest game of the season against Notre Dame, which Lawrence is no guarantee to be available for.
ACC protocol is a player is out 10 days if he tests positive for COVID. The timing of his positive test would determine his ability to play next week, which would happen if he’s healthy and his tests negative.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban tested positive a few weeks ago but was able to coach that week’s game against Georgia thanks to the test being a false-positive. But even with that false-positive, Saban needed to pass multiple tests across multiple days in order to be cleared to coach. His test pinged early enough in the week that this scenario played out, which doesn’t seem to be the case for Lawrence.
With Lawerence out, 5-star freshman D.J. Uiagalelei who was the No. 1 pro-style quarterback recruit last year will be the starter with Lawrence out.
