New York Jets. 2.. Pick Analysis. AFC. East. 30. Scouting Report. player

The New York Jets are a team that needs help at nearly every single position on the depth chart. They have one of the worst skill position groups in the league. To make matters worse, the Jets allowed wide receiver Robby Anderson test the open market, and are currently watching him light it up with the Carolina Panthers. But no position has performed worse than tight end.

Chris Herndon was believed to be the answer at tight end, but he’s never been able to stay healthy for a full season. Herndon’s been on the field for every game this campaign, and he’s only managed to haul in 13 passes for 98 yards on 22 targets. Behind him is Ryan Griffin, who’s by no means a starting caliber tight end. The Jets haven’t had a quality tight end since Dustin Keller left the organization following the 2012 season! That’s how bad it’s been for New York.

Sam Darnold has desperately needed a security blanket to target downfield. He never got it. It’s unlikely he’ll ever get the help, because he appears destined to be traded next offseason, as the Jets are in prime position to win the first overall pick, which will no doubt be used on Clemson signal caller Trevor Lawrence. Regardless of who’s the quarterback, general manager Joe Douglas needs to bring in a playmaker. Ertz fits the bill when he’s healthy.
