Walter McCarty has a warrant out for his arrest.

One of the 2019-20 college basketball season’s feel-good stories instantly turned sour when Evansville Purple Aces head coach Walter McCarty was fired in the middle of his second season amid accusations of sexual assault. Things have gone from bad to worse for McCarty, as his refusal to comply with the law has marked him as a wanted man.

There is a warrant out for McCarty’s arrest, as he once again failed to appear in court as part of a civil case alleging he defaulted on a line of credit. McCarty’s fall from grace is continuing this offseason due to his own poor conduct.

Walter McCarty might find it difficult to get back to coaching

2019-20 was as bipolar a season as you could ever hope to see from the Aces. While McCarty did shockingly upset his alma mater in one of the biggest upsets of the year by taking down Kentucky in Lexington, they finished the season with just nine wins and went winless in conference play. McCarty was put on administrative leave in early January, when the Aces stood at 9-10, and the team lost all of their remaining regular-season games.

McCarty, who became a fan favorite as a player with the Boston Celtics before becoming an assistant coach for them, had been issued warnings about his behavior in his first season, as he was issued multiple warnings regarding “inappropriate off-court behavior with members of our campus community.” For a guy who is supposed to be leading and teaching young men, that isn’t acceptable.

McCarthy was supposed to be a rousing success who took the program to new heights after that night in Lexington. However, his personal troubles have done major damage to both his personal life and the Purple Aces program.
