It is back to starting Travis Kelce of Kansas City or San Francisco’s George Kittle if you want a tight end who can score a lot of fantasy football points (FFP) in week 8 of the NFL  schedule.

Surefire Starters at Tight End

  • Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs, continues to be the most productive tight end in fantasy football with 118.1 FFP.   He has caught 40 passes for 501 yards and 5 touchdowns.  Kelce should easily surpass his 16.9 FFP per game average in Sunday’s contest against the Jets.  Kelce should be good for at least 18 points.
  • George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers, has been climbing up the tight end rankings since his return in game 4 against Philadelphia.  He is No. 2 among tight ends is scoring with 92.2 FFP.  This week his skills will be needed to beat division-rival Seattle (5-1).  Expect at least 18 points from Kittle.

Riding the Bench

Note:  These tight ends have week 8 ”Byes”.

  • Darren Fells, Houston Texans tight end
  • James O’Shaughnessy, Jacksonville Jaguars tight end
  • Logan Thomas, Washington Football Team tight end

Underrated

  • T.J. Hockenson, Detroit Lions tight end, caught the game-winning touchdown in week 7’s 23-22 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.  The second-year player has caught 1 touchdown pass in each of the last 3 games.  He has become a favorite “Red Zone” target for Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford

Overrated

  • Greg Olsen, Seattle Seahawks tight end, is apparently not one of the favored targets of Seattle’s offense.  As ESPN reported in a week 8 preview, “Olsen and Will Dissly are essentially splitting time and opportunities at tight end at this point, and that means neither holds much fantasy appeal.”

Sleeper TE of the Week

  • Darren Walter, Las Vegas Raiders tight end, was productive after his week 6 “Bye”.   He caught 5 passes for 62 yards and one touchdown in a week 7 loss to Tampa Bay.  Prior to Kittle’s return from injury, many fantasy sports writers considered Waller the second most productive tight end in the NFL.  Waller should be good for at least 16 points against Cleveland early Sunday afternoon.
