Jim Harbaugh and Trevor Lawrence is the answer to the New York Jets’ prayers
Jim Harbaugh and Trevor Lawrence could be the answer to the New York Jets’ prayers.
The honeymoon period has long been over for Jim Harbaugh at Michigan and he should think about returning to the NFL. Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines were exposed in a loss to Michigan State on Saturday, the same Michigan State that was embarrassed by Rutgers last week, as Harbaugh falls to 3-8 overall against the Spartans and Ohio State.
It’s time for Harbaugh to go back to the NFL where he won 69 percent of his games in four years with the San Francisco 49ers. Harbaugh was the NFL Coach of the Year in 2011 and took a Colin Kaepernick-led offense to the Super Bowl the next year. His 44-19-1 record and 5-3 postseason record is something a dozen or more NFL clubs would love to have.
The New York Jets are currently winless and drifting aimlessly with Adam Gase as the head coach. I suspect he’s not been fired yet to ensure the Jets lock up the No. 1 pick and the right to draft Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Gase will be fired at some point and won’t get the privilege of coaching Lawrence, but the Jets should hire Harbaugh and give him control of the roster to coax him out of Ann Arbor.
Harbaugh and Lawrence could be the answer for the Jets
Harbaugh hasn’t been able to find a quarterback at Michigan like he had with Andrew Luck at Stanford but Lawrence would instantly give him a franchise quarterback to win with. He resuscitated Alex Smith‘s career in San Francisco and then when he was hurt, he made Kaepernick a dual-threat who led the team to a Super Bowl and another NFC Championship Game.
Even better, he won’t have to worry about the stress of beating Ohio State and Michigan State in the Big Ten. He will come to an AFC East with the Patriots dynasty in ruin and the Buffalo Bills with Josh Allen nothing to be afraid of. Perhaps the Dolphins with Tua Tagovailoa could be a team to watch over the next few years, but the Jets with Lawrence and a few shrewd free agent signings and a couple of smart draft classes could be the favorites for the next several years.
Harbaugh needs a divorce from Michigan and he won’t find a better golden parachute than coming to save the day with the Jets.
