The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles face off on Sunday night to gain ground in the NFC East.
Prior to the start of the NFL season, we’re sure that NBC thought that the Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys matchup in Week 8 will be between the two best teams in the NFC. Oh, how things can change in two months. Both squads are technically the best teams in the NFC East, but that’s not saying much. Regardless, the winner of this game on Sunday night will hold the division lead.
The Cowboys are in a bind, because not only is Dak Prescott done for the season, but backup Andy Dalton was ruled out for Week 8 with a concussion. So, Dallas is calling upon seventh-round selection Ben DiNucci. The rookie entered in relief of Dalton last week against the Washington Football Team, where he completed two-of-three pass attempts for 39 yards. Just last season at James Madison University, DiNucci completed 70.9-percent of his passes for 3,441 yards, 29 touchdowns and six interceptions.
While DiNucci could shock the world in Philadelphia on Sunday, it’s going to be a challenge considering starting offensive tackles Tyron Smith and La’el Collins are done for the season. Expect the rookie to lean heavily on running back Ezekiel Elliott. But, the star rusher will need to abandon his fumbling issues and have a firm hold of the ball throughout the game for Dallas’ offense to have any form of success.
As for the Eagles, they once again defeated the New York Giants with a skeleton crew on offense. Things will be easier for quarterback Carson Wentz this week, as rookie wide receiver Jalen Reagor and tight end Dallas Goedert were activated from the injured reserve and will play against the Cowboys. But, they’ll still be without running back Miles Sanders, who continues to recover from a knee injury. That means it will be “the Boston Scott Show,” as he faces a Cowboys defense that has surrendered an average of 178.3 yards per game.
