Why would the Raiders not take advantage of the worst team in the NFL?

Though the Atlanta Falcons could be a seller ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline, we have to believe winless New York Jets absolutely are. There is no way head coach Adam Gase makes it to 2021 coaching this rancid football team. While ownership may allow general manager Joe Douglas to rebuild with a new head coach, his best course of action is to load up on as many picks as possible.

With plenty of players potentially on the trade block to choose from, including safety Marcus Maye and cornerback Brian Poole, the guy the Raiders need to bring in is defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. He is the Jets’ most coveted trade asset. While it will take a boatload to get him, the Raiders would be getting him on his rookie deal with a franchise tag option as well.

In college, Williams was a monster for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Because he starred in the season ahead of Mike Mayock‘s first draft as the Raiders general manager, Williams could form quite a defensive line tandem with the guy taken after him in Clelin Ferrell. Williams has been the better pro thus far, but they may end up bringing the best out of each other for years to come.

He has played in every game this season for the Jets, and has been one of the more productive players in Gregg Williams’ defensive scheme. For the right price, Raiders defensive coordinator Paul Guenther could have a player as talented as what Geno Atkins was for him with the Cincinnati Bengals. If the Jets really are selling on Williams, Mayock needs to pick up the phone stat.
