The American League and National League MVP finalists have been announced for 2020

The finalists for 2020 MVP in the American League and the National League have been unveiled.

It may have only been a 60-game, coronavirus-shortened 2020 MLB season, but it gave us plenty of star power in both circuits. With eight teams getting into the postseason in both leagues, more than half of baseball got to experience October. Fate would have it, all six finalists for respective league MVPs played at least one postseason series this fall, with one star win it all in Arlington.

American League 2020 MVP finalists

Your 2020 AL MVP finalists are Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu, New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu and Cleveland Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez. The favorite to take home AL MVP is Abreu, but LeMahieu is a Yankee and his team went further in the postseason than Abreu’s or Ramirez’s. While it’s a regular-season award, LeMahieu is a Yankee after all.

National League 2020 MVP finalists

Your 2020 NL MVP finalists are Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts, Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman and San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado. While Betts’ Dodgers won the World Series, Freeman is the presumptive favorite to take home NL MVP. With Machado being in there instead of his teammate Fernando Tatis Jr., it’s only a two-man race.

While some races during award season may be more compelling, it’s pretty clear which two players will take home league MVPs. Freeman should end up winning NL MVP with Betts finishing as runner-up and Machado a distant third. Abreu should take it home in the AL with LeMahieu probably as runner-up with Ramirez keeping it interesting with his third-place finish.
