The Tennessee Titans bolstered their flailing defense on Monday afternoon, acquiring corner Desmond King from the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Tennessee Titans needed to find a key player for their defense after an embarrassing 31-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Well, it looks like they might have found their guy in what could be a King steal for the franchise.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Los Angeles Chargers have traded defensive back Desmond King to the Titans in exchange for a sixth-round pick. Earlier Monday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced that the team was open to traded the All-Pro defensive back.

King, 25, is a jack of all trades for any team, playing multiple roles for a defense. This past season, the four-year veteran has tallied 24 total tackles and a sack in six games this season. His best spot is playing down in the slot, essentially replacing what the team lost when Logan Ryan left in free agency for the New York Giants.

The worst third-down defense in football — and one that has allowed 23-of-33 such conversions in the past two games — King is a welcome addition.

For the Titans, King will solidify a backfield that’s been missing a certain quality of defender in the secondary. Expect him to be effective in the special teams game as well, where he was also an All-Pro as a returner. This is an excellent move for the Titans who look to remain ahead in the AFC South race over the Indianapolis Colts.
