2020 NBA Draft: 5 teams that should trade for Timberwolves’ No. 1 pick
If the Minnesota Timberwolves make the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft available, these five teams should consider trading up for it.
The 2020 NBA Draft is just over two weeks away, and the Minnesota Timberwolves are basically on the clock already. Not only do they have several prospects to consider with the No. 1 overall selection, but they’ll need to keep their options open to potential trade offers as well.
In a weaker draft class that’s short on franchise-altering talent, the Wolves may be more predisposed that most teams with the No. 1 pick to trade the selection for players who can help Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell right away, as well as stockpile future draft assets in the process.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Timberwolves have made the pick “very available.” That makes sense, considering the top prospect in this year’s draft, LaMelo Ball, is a pass-first point guard who would take the ball out of Russell’s hands. While he’d be an ideal pick-and-roll partner for KAT, between Minnesota’s star duo and emerging talents like Malik Beasley and Josh Okogie, there are only so many touches to go around.
If the Wolves don’t consider Ball to be a good fit in a somewhat crowded backcourt, these five teams should pick up the phone with an offer for that No. 1 pick.
