The Dallas Cowboys could activate Cooper Rush from the practice squad to start vs. the Steelers.

Sometimes reunion tours are fun for the fans. Dallas Cowboys fans likely aren’t going to enjoy this reunion come Sunday.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys are considering turning towards Cooper Rush as the starting quarterback in place of rookie Ben DiNucci. Rush was added to the team’s practice squad last week after the team elected to part ways with him earlier this offseason.

DiNucci, a seventh-round pick from James Madison in this past draft, made his first start against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. He completed 21 of 40 passes for 180 yards on Sunday night, and didn’t throw a touchdown and somehow managed to avoid throwing what should have been an interception.

DiNucci was expected to be a bridge between the gap during Andy Dalton’s time on the sideline following his head injury against the Washington Football Team. Unfortunately, the Cowboys will be without their top backup a little longer following placing Dalton on the reserve/COVID list.

Dalton will be out for at least this Sunday’s game against the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers, if not longer.

Seriously, what are the Cowboys doing?

It’s clear DiNucci isn’t the right answer under center, but then again, is anyone other than Dak Prescott? Prior to his season-ending ankle injury, Prescott led the NFL with 1,856 passing yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions.

Rush, who joined the team after a promising career at Central Michigan, has been nothing more than a backup on a roster hoping to never use him. Since joining the league in 2017, the 26-year-old has gone 1-of-3 for a grand total of two yards.

The ugly outing from the rookie seems to have Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy considering all options. Rush, who currently is on the team’s practice squad, might be just good enough to see Pittsburgh only hold them to a field goal or two. If McCarthy really is ready to move past DiNucci, Garrett Gilbert is the other healthy option on the active roster.

And yet, Jerry Jones still believes this team can win, right?
