In the third game of the Champions League group stage, Manchester City host Olympiacos at Etihad Stadium. Through two games, City are first in the group with six points. The Red-Whites are tied for second in the group with three points.
Manchester City were expected to run away with their group. Through two games, that is exactly what has happened. The Citizens have easily beaten Marseille and Porto. While City have been great in the Champions League, they have been very disappointing in the Premier League. Through eight games, City have only 11 points. Injuries to Sergio Aguero have had a significant negative impact on the club. Manager Pep Guardiola has been forced to play Raheem Sterling out of position and City’s attack has not been as prolific.
Olympiacos suffered their first defeat of the season in their last Champions League game, losing 2-0 to Porto. The Greek club has been excellent in the Super League but has struggled to get out of the Champions League group stage. Since 2011, Olympiacos have been in the Champions League group stage eight times but have only advanced to the knockout stage once. This season could the Red-Whites’ best chance of advancing for the first time since 2014.
