In the third game of the Champions League group stage, Chelsea host Rennes at Stamford Bridge in the first of two straight games between the clubs. Through two games, the Blues are first in the group with four points. The Rennais are tied for last in Group E with one point.
Chelsea have not lost a game since the beginning of October. The Blues smashed Russian club Krasnodar 4-0 in their last Champions League game and beat Burnley 3-0 in their most recent Premier League game. While Chelsea have been getting results, they are still vulnerable defensively. Offensively, the Blues spent huge in the summer. Chelsea signed Timo Werner and Kai Havertz from the Bundesliga and the two players have been among the club’s best. In 11 games, Werner and Havertz have combined for nine goals and six assists. The two players will be key players in Wednesday’s game.
Rennes lost to Sevilla in their last Champions League game. The French club has performed well to start the Ligue 1 season. Rennes have 18 points in their first nine games and sit only three points behind Paris Saint-Germain. Striker Serhou Guirassy will be a kay player for The Rennais on Wednesday. Guirassy has scored five goals in all competitions this season.
