The Los Angeles Lakers star seeks justice for his best friend’s sister, Ericka Weems, who was found dead on Monday.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James made a plea for some information following the death of Ericka Weems, the sister to James’ childhood friend Brandon Weems, on Wednesday.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, Weems was found dead in her Akron, Ohio home on Monday with a gunshot wound to the head. According to CNN, the police report says Weems was shot some time between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2. Local authorities did not make any arrests or identify any potential suspects. Weems was only 37-years-old,
Weems was the older sister to the Cavs director of scouting
Not only did this news affect James, but also the Cleveland Cavaliers organization. Brandon Weems is the director of scouting for the Cavaliers, a position he held since 2017. Cavaliers general manager Kolby Altman released a statement on Wednesday evening, sending condolences to the Weems family on behalf of himself and the entire organization.
James and Weems first met playing Pee Wee football when they were five and six years old. where they played high school basketball for St. Mary-St. Vincent in Akron. That very school had its games broadcasted nationally on ESPN in the early 2000’s because of the star power of James, who went onto become the first overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. Weems spent time as a coach in college for Kentucky, Drexel and Oakland Universities before signing on to become a scout for the Cavaliers in 2015.
James is obviously heartbroken over the lost of his “brother’s sister,” and he wants to get some answers about who would do such a thing. The case is still under investigation.
