Mitchell Trubisky reportedly suffered an injury Sunday against the Saints.

The Chicago Bears offense has been suspect this season and that continues to be true even with Nick Foles starting at quarterback in place of Mitchell Trubisky.

The latter has been relegated to backup, but Matt Nagy decided to throw the former No. 2 pick on the field Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. Trubisky’s name shows up in the box score for what ended up being a three-yard run. Unfortunately, his lone play resulted in an injury.

An unfortunate injury for Mitchell Trubisky

Any Bears fans wanting Nagy to go back to Trubisky will now have no argument to make if this injury is serious. This is not entirely Nagy’s fault, but it may not be too wise to put your backup quarterback in a vulnerable situation when the starter isn’t lighting it up to begin with.

The Bears have managed to reach the halfway point of the 2020 season with a 5-3 record. Trubisky won the starting job in training camp and it is now clear the Bears will go as far as Foles will take them. Trubisky may only be used in gadget plays if he can return.

The once potential savior of the Bears is now waiting to hit the open market this offseason. The Bears turned down his fifth-year option and he should get a chance to prove he can succeed outside of Nagy’s system.

Right now he will be hoping there is no structural damage in his shoulder. Suffering a serious injury would be an unfortunate end to the former top pick’s tenure with the Bears.
