Every NBA team’s greatest dunker of all time

Boston Celtics: Gerald Green
Considering the Boston Celtics are one of the most storied franchises in all of professional sports, you could assume they had a plethora of great dunkers. The truth is that although a lot of all-time players put on a Celtics jersey, not many of them were notable dunkers. But one player who made the most of his short stint with the team was Gerald Green.
At first glance, Green doesn’t look like an athletic specimen. He’s 6-foot-6, 205 pounds and not very solidly built. But as the old adage goes, “Looks can be deceiving.” Green only averaged eight points per game in 160 appearances over three seasons with the Celtics. Yet, most of those eight points were very memorable to Celtics fans.
Unlike Wilkins, Green had the ability to leap on his first step. Since he was so skinny, Green didn’t need to build as much momentum in order to jump above the rim. Additionally, his dunks were LeBron-esque in that he would charge downhill and wind up for the jam.
Most of Green’s dunks were overhead as well. His preferable moves were to either slam the ball with his right hand or throw it down with both hands on a fastbreak. Although Green is considered a journeyman and has been on eight teams in 12 NBA seasons (he played overseas in Russia for two years), he’ll always be remembered by the team who drafted him with the 18th pick in 2005.
Green was drafted out of high school as well, attending Gulf Shores Academy in Houston, Texas.
