The CNN anchor clapped back at former Auburn head coach and current Senator of Alabama Tommy Tuberville.

The United States presidential election is entering its third night of action, as incumbent Donald Trump is looking to take a narrow path to victory against challenger and former Vice President Joe Biden. A winner is taking longer to determine than in past elections because a vast majority of Americans opted to vote by mail due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Trump is alleging that the mail-in ballots are “fraudulent,” despite there being no evidence of that being the case. A new senator is taking Trump’s side.

On Thursday, former Auburn Tigers football coach and new Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville compared the vote counting in battleground states to referees adding points to the losing team’s score after the game is over. CNN anchor Jake Tapper clapped back at Tuberville, calling his claims “inaccurate,” before taking a shot at his 5-7 record at Auburn in 2008.

Jake Tapper leaps from the top rope

Tapper couldn’t help himself when bringing up Tuberville’s season to forget.

Entering the 2008 season, Tuberville had led the the Tigers to eight consecutive bowl appearances, but that streak came to an end. As Tapper mentioned, out of Auburn’s seven losses, his worst came against the Alabama Crimson Tide. In the Iron Bowl matchup and regular-season finale, Alabama blew out Auburn 36-0, where the Tigers could only muster up 170 yards of total offense. Meanwhile, the Tigers defense surrendered 412 yards of offense to the Crimson Tide, 144 of which came solely from running back Glen Coffee.

At the end of that season, Tuberville resigned from his position, and he wouldn’t return to the head coaching scene until 2010 when he was hired by Texas Tech.

Even though Tuberville is a U.S. Senator-elect, people will still happily remind him of that 2008 season. We guarantee plenty of Crimson Tide fans in Tuscaloosa will be doing that during his time in office.
