The Indianapolis Colts proved they have the best defense and special teams in fantasy football last Sunday as they manhandled the Detroit Lions, 41-21.

And Atlanta’s Younghoe Koo is technically No. 2 in kicking, but leader Randy Bullock of Cincinnati and his teammates have a week 9 “Bye”.

Surefire Starters

  • The Indianapolis Colts have 4 defensive or special teams touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 18 sacks and 2 tackles for safeties.  Their 86 fantasy football points (FFP) puts them 10 points ahead of 2nd place Pittsburgh in defense and special teams.
  • Younghoe Koo, Atlanta Falcons kicker, is just one FFP behind Cincinnati kicker Randy Bullock in the race for the best placekicker in the NFL.  Koo has converted on 19 out of 20 field goal attempts and 14 out of 17 extra point attempts.  In his 15-game career with the Falcons, Koo has kicked 42 field goals out of 46 attempts.

  • Cincinnati Bengals defense/special teams
  • Randy Bullock, Cincinnati Bengals kicker
  • Cleveland Browns defense/special teams
  • Cody Parkey, Cleveland Browns kicker
  • Los Angeles Rams defense/special teams
  • Kai Forbath, Los Angeles Rams kicker
  • Philadelphia Eagles defense/special teams
  • Jake Elliott, Philadelphia Eagles kicker

Underrated

  • While Miami resolves a quarterback debate, the Dolphins defense and special teams have moved up to the No. 8 spot in fantasy football.  Miami’s “D” has scored 2 touchdowns, intercepted 7 passes, and forced and recovered 5 fumbles.  They have scored 44 FFP in the last three games.
  • Wil Lutz, New Orleans Saints kicker, has scored an above-average 13 FFP in the last 3 games.  With All-Pro wide receiver Michael Thomas out due to injury, Lutz has been filling part of the scoring gap.

Overrated

  • Las Vegas has only held an opponent to less than 24 points once this season.  The Raiders have not sacked a quarterback since week 5.
  • Dustin Hopkins, Washington Football Team kicker, has connected on only 8 of 12 field goal attempts. His inconsistency has led to speculation that Washington may make a change iif he plays poorly against their week 9 opponent, the New York Giants.

Sleeper(s) of the Week

  • The Washington Football Team has moved up the team defense ranks and faces division-rival New York in a critical NFC East showdown.  If the defense contains Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, they will continue to climb in the rankings.
  • Michael Badgely, Los Angeles Chargers kicker, converted on all 3 field goal attempts and 3 extra points in a 31-30 loss to the Denver Broncos.  Given Las Vegas’ defensive woes, Badgely may get more attempts to add to his 57 FFP this season.
