It’s time to remember the wild Harlem Shake video made by the Miami Heat back in 2013.

The winter of 2013 was a much simpler time, when the stress of the day was figuring out how to make a great Harlem Shake video. Anyone who says they didn’t try one is lying.

The dance craze swept the Internet before the days of TikTok and even the Miami Heat joined in during the days of the Big Three. The result was one of the best Harlem Shake videos ever made.

The Heat’s Harlem Shake flashback

Talk about a blast from the past. Chris “Birdman” Andersen gets it started and mayhem ensues when the beat drops. There is a younger LeBron James shirtless in a king outfield, Dwyane Wade wearing a full bear head, and Chris Bosh jamming out in a robe and a cowboy hat.

The best costume of all is definitely Mario Chalmers dressed as the one true Mario. Ray Allen in a Phantom of the Opera mask is a close second.

The entire point of Harlem Shake videos was to go as crazy as possible. The Heat were having a lot of fun during these days and put a lot of effort into going viral as well.

This video was filmed during the 2012-13 season, which was the best one seen during James’ time in Miami. The team went 66-16 and won its second straight championship. The Heat definitely backed up any hate that may have come their way from fans who don’t like seeing players have any fun during a season.

Memes and viral trends move so quickly now that it’s easy to forgot about one of the originators in the Harlem Shake. It is now normal for teams to post funny videos on their social media accounts. Back in the Wild West of 2013, this was a new thing. The Heat may go down as pioneers for athletes being themselves and showing off some personality, even if that means dancing around in a red suit with the head of a mascot bear. Once again, these were simpler times.
