Shedeur Sanders will play for his father Deion Sanders on Jackson State football.

Jackson State football lands a huge commitment by way of Deion Sanders’ son Shedeur Sanders.

The younger Sanders is a four-star, pro-style quarterback recruit in the 2020 cycle. The Trinity Christian School standout from Cedar Hill, Texas originally committed to play for the Florida Atlantic Owls under Willie Taggart. But with his hall-of-fame father now leading the football program at Jackson State, the opportunity to play for his dad was too good for him to pass up.

Will Sanders’ commitment to Jackson State help re-legitimize HBCU football?

Though players do make it to the NFL out of HBCUs, long gone are the days of Grambling State being a national power under the iconic Eddie Robinson. If a guy is talented enough to go Division I, he usually does that. While a playmaker as brilliant as the late Steve McNair may come out of nowhere and surprise us all, HBCUs have lost a bit of their luster in the last few decades.

The elder Sanders has wanted to get into coaching for a while now. His alma mater in Florida State University has been a tire fire for the last half decade. Though it would have been a huge reach for Florida State to consider bringing “Prime Time” into the fold, this was the type of move Jackson State saw necessary to get back into the national spotlight. Now, his son will be playing for him.

It is cool to see a son have his dad’s back in their quest to make each other’s dreams a reality.
