Alabama football running back Trey Sanders is in the hospital after a car accident.

Running back Trey Sanders of the Alabama football team was involved in a car accident on Friday.

The former five-star recruit out of the IMG Academy down in Bradenton, Florida was injured in a car accident on Friday. His head coach Nick Saban said Sanders suffered non-life threatening injuries. While he had to be hospitalized for his injuries, the talented Alabama running back is in stable condition. Alabama is currently on its bye week before the rivalry game with the LSU Tigers.

“Trey Sanders was involved in a car accident this morning and is in stable condition after sustaining non-life threatening injuries,” said Saban on Friday afternoon. “We are in direct contact with his family and the physicians that are treating him as we continue to gather more information.”

Trey Sanders could miss some time for the Crimson Tide this season

Sanders committed to Alabama back in 2018 as part of the Crimson Tide’s 2019 recruiting class. After redshirting last year, Sanders has appeared in four games for Alabama this season after suffering a foot injury that kept him out of the first two contests this campaign. Sanders has 34 carries for 134 yards and a catch for a loss of two yards on the season in just four games.

While Alabama will be fine while he recovers from the injuries suffered in the car accident, there is a great chance Sanders will miss some time for the Crimson Tide the rest of the way. Depending on the severity of the injuries, he could be out for the rest of the season. Alabama may be on its bye week, but we should not expect him to play next Saturday vs. LSU over in Death Valley.

While we are all glad that Sanders is doing okay after his car accident, it is a bummer that it happened when he did. He was coming off his best game of his college career up to this point. Sanders had 12 carries for 80 yards in Alabama’s blowout win over the SEC West rival Mississippi State Bulldogs. Sanders’ rushing total had increased in every game he played this season.

Here is to a speedy recovery for the talented former five-star running back for Alabama.
