Draftkings NFL Showdown Player Picks: Seattle @ Buffalo
By Hans Geevers
This Sunday, the NFL presents an intraconference battle between the Seattle Seahawks and the Buffalo Bills. Let’s take a look at this single game slate from a Draftkings perspective!
Before I discuss my Draftkings player picks for Sunday night’s game, let’s take a look at the key DFS injuries for both teams and briefly review the rules for the single game showdown contest.
DFS Injuries
Seahawks: RB Chris Carson (foot), G Mike Iupati (back), DE Benson Mayowa (ankle), CB Shaquill Griffin (concussion, hamstring), RB Carlos Hyde (hamstring), S Ugo Amadi (hamstring) OUT
Bills: CB Josh Norman (hamstring) C Mitch Morse (concussion), LB Matt Milano (pec), RB T.J. Yeldon (back), RB Taiwan Jones (hamstring) OUT; DL Vernon Butler (groin), OL Cody Ford (knee), DE Darryl Johnson (knee), TE Dawson Knox (calf) QUESTIONABLE
Let’s shift our focus to the rules for the Draftkings single game showdown contest. You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard Draftkings points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.
The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard Draftkings points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a Draftkings showdown contest.
If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the Draftkings showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.
Here are my Draftkings player selections for Sunday afternoon’s game!
Captain
Stefon Diggs, WR $14,700 (1.5 times Flex cost)
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has made a concentrated effort to get Stefon Diggs the football this season. For clarity, let’s turn our attention to the relevant data to see how often the Bills signal caller has attempted to get Diggs the football this year. Through eight games played, Diggs has been targeted by Josh Allen a league high 79 times. Diggs has turned those 79 targets into 54 receptions, 645 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns.
Now that we have established the fantasy value of Diggs, let’s shift our focus to the defense he will face this week. The Seattle Seahawks defense has had issues stopping offenses from passing the football this season. Through seven games played, the Seahawks defense is a league worst (32nd) in average passing yards allowed per game. More specifically, Seattle is allowing an average of 358.71 passing yards a game!
Flex Plays
Russell Wilson, QB $12,200
The 31 year old quarterback is quite simply playing outstanding this season. Through seven games played, Wilson has accumulated 2,151 yards and 26 passing touchdowns. That is an average of 307.28 passing yards and 3.71 touchdowns a game! Those outstanding statistics translate to an average of 32 Draftkings points a game.
Wilson will face a Buffalo Bills defense that has had issues establishing pressure on quarterbacks. Due to the fact the Bills have struggled to pressure quarterbacks, the Buffalo coaching staff loves to dial up blitzes. Frankly, in my opinion, sending blitz packages at Russell Wilson is a recipe for disaster. I fully expect Wilson to put up outstanding fantasy numbers again this week.
Josh Allen $11,000
I mentioned earlier in this article that the Seahawks defense has been awful defending the pass. Having stated that, I am going to roll with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as one of my flex plays. Through eight games played this season, Allen is averaging 25.1 Draftkings points a game. It should also be noted that the Seattle Seahawks defense is currently 31st in the NFL in fantasy points allowed to the quarterback position.
Deejay Dallas, RB $7,000
The Seahawks will be without running backs Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde this week. That means Deejay Dallas will get the start for Seattle. Dallas did a decent job when given the opportunity to play meaningful snaps last week. Deejay had 41 rushing yards, 17 receiving yards and two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) in the Seahawks week eight win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Tyler Bass, K $4,000
The Buffalo Bills offense has had issues scoring touchdowns once they arrive in the red zone recently. To be more specific, in the last three games played, the Bills are 29th in the NFL in red zone efficiency (45.45%). I think Buffalo’s offense will continue to struggle in the red zone at times on Sunday. What does that mean? More opportunities for kicker Tyler Bass!
Bass converted six of eight field goals in the Bills win over the New York Jets in week seven.
Additional flex plays I like not mentioned above: Travis Homer, RB $200: D.K. Metcalf, WR $10,400: Tyler Lockett, WR $9,200.
