It is a great year to lean on ‘surefire” starters who generate significant amounts of fantasy football points (FFP).  Examples for week 9 include running back Alvin Kamara, wide receiver Tyler Lockett, Flex starter DeAndre Hopkins and tight end Travis Kelce.

You will not see any Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams or Philadelphia Eagles among the “Surefire Starters” lists for week 9 because it is their “Bye” week.

Surefire Starters at Running Back

  • Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints running back, has 987 total yards (431 rushing and 556 receiving).  He averages 28 points per game..  Expect a 20+ point performance against division-rival Tampa Bay Sunday afternoon.
  • Dalvin Cook, Minnesota Vikings running back, is No. 2 in rushing yards behind Derrick Henry in the NFL.  Henry enters week 9 with 652 yards and Cook has 775 yards.  Cook should have an excellent game Sunday against a weak Detroit Lions run defense.
  • Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans running back, is No, 3 among running backs in FFP.   He has 143.6 points, while Cook has 161.9 and Kamara has 195.7 points.  Expect Henry to continue his rushing rampage against the Bears Sunday.

Surefire Starters at Wide Receiver

  • Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver, has 148.5 FFP and averages 21.2 points per game.  He has been targeted 63 times, caught 49 passes for 575 yards receiving and scored 7 touchdowns.  Competing against teammate D.K. Metcalf to catch Russell Wilson’s passes will keep Lockett sharp and ready to generate 20+ FFP against the Buffalo Bills Sunday.
  • Calvin RIdley, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver, is dealing with a foot injury but has played before when less than 100%.  The Falcons face Denver and have a “Bye” next week so expect Ridley to play Sunday.   He has caught 43 passes for 656 yards and 6 touchdowns.
  • D.K. Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver, was targeted 15 times in week 8’s win over San Francisco.  He ended up with 12 catches for 161 yards and 2 touchdown receptions.  Expect Metcalf and Lockett to be targeted a combined total of 20 times by Wilson Sunday.

Surefire Flex Starters

  • DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver, returns after a week 8 “Bye” week to face Miami and appears ready to add to his 3 touchdowns.  Hopkins is averaging 20.5 fantasy football points (FFP) per game and should be good for 20.5 more points against the Dolphins defense.
  • Stefon Diggs, Buffalo Bills wide receiver, will be ready to compete against Seattle’s dynamic tandem of Tyler Lockett and D.J. Metcalf.  He has been targeted 79 times this season, caught 54 passes for 695 yards and scored 3 touchdowns.

Surefire Starters at Tight End

  • Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs, is the No. 1 tight end in fantasy football with 143 FFP.   He has caught 48 passes for 610 yards and 6 touchdowns.  Kelce should easily surpass his 17.9 FFP per game average in Sunday’s contest against the Panthers.
  • Darren Waller, Las Vegas Raiders, is No. 2 among tight ends is scoring with 98.2 FFP.  This week his skills will be needed to beat division-rival Los Angeles Chargers.  Expect at least 16.5 points from Waller.
