Washington Football Team quarterback Kyle Allen suffered a nasty ankle injury.

The Washington Football Team is just 2-5, but they are still in the middle of a divisional hunt, and they entrusted Kyle Allen to play well enough to get the job done. Unfortunately, Ron Rivera’s squad might’ve seen their chances slip away as Allen suffered a nasty leg injury against the New York Giants.

Allen was carted off the field after a gruesome ankle injury after being sacked by Giants safety Jabrill Peppers. Rivera was forced to put Alex Smith into the game under center.

Alex Smith will come into the game after the Kyle Allen injury

After Ron Rivera decided to send Dwayne Haskins to the bench, Allen became the starting quarterback with Smith as the backup as Washington looked to make a run in a wide-open NFC East. Allen has thrown four touchdowns against just one pick, showing he can play efficient, mistake-free football when called upon. Allen’s injury is a major blow to their chances in the wide-open NFC East.

Smith has played briefly this season, as he cameoed in the second half of a loss against the Los Angeles Rams. Smith went 9-17 and was sacked several times behind a very porous offensive line. While Smith is the more accomplished passer by far, the health concerns around him are incredibly concerning, and his performance against the Rams shouldn’t be an encouraging sight for this passing game.

Washington doesn’t exactly have an ideal quarterback situation, as they replaced a quarterback who just suffered a serious leg injury with a quarterback who has suffered an even more serious leg injury. Having said that, Smith is still accurate, and that could be enough to pull out the win this afternoon against a 1-7 Giants team.
