Philip Rivers tried to tackle a Ravens defender and it didn’t go according to plan

Not all quarterbacks can be Ben Roethlisberger, who famously made a shoestring tackle on Colts safety Bob Sanders in the 2005 AFC Divisional Round, keeping the Indianapolis defense off the board in the process.

With the Colts role reversed in this case, Rivers tried to play hero on a Ravens defensive touchdown after Indy coughed up the ball to Chuck Clark, who returned it the rest of the way.

While all major props go the Clark, who recovered the fumble and found daylight very quickly, Rivers tackling attempt did not go unnoticed by social media. First, Rivers took a bad angle and fell in similar fashion to Daniel Jones of the New York Giants, with no one making contact with him. Then, he awkwardly reached towards the heavens, as if to magically grab Clark by the cleats.

At that point, Clark was nowhere near Rivers, however.

NFL Twitter trolled Rivers relentlessly for his tackling attempt

Rivers is towards the tail end of his career, so it’s unlikely he gives a damn what anyone thinks of him at this juncture. His Hall of Fame case is very much still up in the air, but this won’t be added to the highlight reel.
