This week, the PGA Tour travels to Augusta, Georgia for the 2020 Masters. Let’s take a look at this event from a FanDuel/DFS perspective to find some great under the radar options for your lineups!

Before I discuss my FanDuel sleeper selections for the Masters let’s take a look at some relevant key historical trends to consider as you compile player pools this week.

Key Trends

  • Average age of the Masters Champion the last 11 years: 37.5
  • Average OWGR (Official World Golf Ranking) of the Masters Champion the last 11 years: 15.5
  • The last six Masters champions made the cut in the four events preceding the Masters.
  • The last golfer to win the Masters in his first attempt was Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979.
  • The last winner of the Masters to be ranked outside the top 30 in the world was Angel Cabrera in 2009. Cabrera was ranked 69th in the official world golf rankings entering that year’s event.

Now let’s shift our focus to my FanDuel sleeper selections for the 2020 Masters!

Zach Johnson $8,100

To be perfectly honest, I am very surprised that Johnson arrives on the FanDuel slate at the low price of $8,100. In my opinion, it’s borderline disrespectful for him to be priced that low considering how well the two time major champion has been playing lately. We should also not forget that Johnson won the Masters in 2007.

An example of Zach’s recent quality play can be seen in his eighth place result at the U.S. Open and his seventh place finish at the Wyndham Championship.

In relation to the current listed 2020 Masters field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Zach ranks second in GIR (greens in regulation), ninth in scrambling, seventh in strokes gained putting, and first in bogey avoidance.

Sebastian Munoz $7,900

Munoz has six top 27 finishes in his last seven events played on the PGA Tour, including a ninth place result at the CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek in October. Upon completion of four rounds of competitive play at the CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek, in relation to the field, Munoz finished second in bogey avoidance and 20th in GIR (greens in regulation).

Chez Reavie $7,600

The 38 year old fired a final round 66 at the Safeway Open on his way to a third place result in September.

In relation to this week’s current listed Masters field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Reavie ranks first in driving accuracy, fifth in strokes gained approach, and 18th in strokes gained ball striking.

Justin Harding $7,300

The 34 year old South African plays the majority of his events on the European Tour. In his last six events played on the European Tour, Harding has three top 30 finishes, including a third place result at the Andalucia Masters in September.

I also like the fact that the South African has previously shown that he can play well at Augusta National. Harding finished 12th at the 2019 Masters.

Tyler Duncan $7,100

The 31 year old American has two top 28 finishes in his last three events played on the PGA Tour, including a 28th place result at the ZOZO Championship @ Sherwood two weeks ago. It should also be mentioned that Duncan finished 13th at the Wyndham Championship in August.
