WWE Monday Night Raw: Drew McIntyre and the New Day win main event
WWE Monday Night Raw headed into another week of action as storylines pushed forward to the upcoming PPV, Survivor Series on November 22.
Another Monday Night Raw came to fans from the WWE ThunderDome as the days tick by until Survivor Series in a few weeks. There is still work to do to figure out who is going to be a part of the five-man team for the red brand and with majority of the group already selected, this show was set to finalize the core group of participants.
The first match of the night was to complete the team. Matt Riddle, Jeff Hardy and Elias competed in a triple-threat match to determine who would fill the fifth slot. The initial pace of the match was quick until Elias took over, grounding both Hardy and Riddle. Elias landed Drift Away on Hard and it looked like he was going to the PPV, but Riddle broke it up. That led to another skirmish where Riddle hit the Bro Derek on Elias to win the match.
Lana has been getting bullied for the last two months and that continued with a singles match against Shayna Baszler. They are teammates at Survivor Series, but with weeks left to go, Baszler did not hesitate to assault Lana in the ring. Lana tried to get the jump on Baszler early, but she did not have much to offer the former NXT champion. Baszler toyed with her before locking in the choke to force Lana to submit.
The Survivor Series team was set but that did not mean things were peaceful. That led to a tag team match, pitting Sheamus and Braun Strowman against Matt Riddle and Keith Lee. The four men were set to be teammates at the PPV but that did not stop them from battering each other in this match. AJ Styles was the special guest referee, but his presence brought some additional shenanigans.
Things got out of hand as Lee used Sheamus as a weapon to take out Strowman, then used Riddle in the same fashion on Sheamus. The teams would fall apart when Sheamus landed the Brogue Kick on his partner, Strowman. Riddle rolled Sheamus up to get the pin and earn the win for his team.
Bobby Lashley had an impromptu title defense against Titus O’Neil. Titus got off to a fast start and had Lashley on the back foot early. But he would eat a Spear, followed up by the Hurt Lock, forcing Titus to submit.
Asuka was back on Raw and she was facing the other half of the women’s tag team champion, Nia Jax. Jax’s strength was a problem early in this match, swatting Asuka away. Asuka continued to find her way into offensive maneuvers, but Jax continued to toss her around the ring to dominate. Things broke down once the other women on the Survivor Series team got involved. Baszler jumped in on Asuka, leading to the disqualification finish.
Ali and Ricochet were former partners and now standing on opposite sides of the ring. Ricochet threw the first punch of the match and used that to get control early. That would change when Ali sent him face first into the turnbuckle. Ali continued to batter his opponent until Ricochet sent him crashing from the ring apron to the floor with a Hurricanrana.
The two men continued to go back and forth. Ricochet even began to display some of the power he was known for showing off when needed in the past. The ending came when Ricochet went for the Phoenix Splash and missed, falling into Ali’s Koji Clutch. Ricochet would not tap but was put to sleep – bringing an end to the match.
The main event of the evening was a six-man tag match, Drew McIntyre teamed with the New Day competed against Randy Orton, the Miz and John Morrison.
McIntyre and Morrison started the match off which resulted in Morrison being launched across the ring and manhandled. The same happened to Miz when he came in, but Orton refused to tag in to help. Things finally came together for the team of Orton, Miz and Morrison after isolating Xavier Woods on their side of the ring. Woods would continue to take a beating until he found a way to get the tag to McIntyre. Orton still refused tag, leaving his partners in the ring. Morrison would eat the Claymore kick and be pinned in the middle of the ring.
