Kirby Smart leaves door open for JT Daniels to start against Missouri
Could Georgia fans finally see JT Daniels start for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs?
The wait for Georgia football to make a quarterback change could be coming an end this weekend. Bulldogs fans have hoped to see JT Daniels take the field, but Kirby Smart and the coaches have kept his status top secret.
That’s changed this week, as starter Stetson Bennett is questionable to face Missouri on Saturday with an AC sprain of his shoulder. With Bennett’s status up in the air, it could open the door for Daniels to start this weekend. Smart confirmed that possibility in his most-recent press conference.
“He’s going to get reps,” Smart said of Daniels via 247Sports. “He’s going to get work because, we just talked about it, Stetson, we don’t know if he’s going to be there or not. The great thing about JT is, he begged to go down to the scout team to get work when he wasn’t early on. He wanted to go down and compete, throw and get better against our defense. So, it’s not like he’s been sitting on the shelf, not getting many throws. He’s been getting a lot of those.”
JT Daniels has the potential of making his Georgia debut on Saturday
Following the loss to Florida this past weekend, Georgia is in dire need of a win, as their hopes of once again winning the SEC East are on the respirator. With Bennett potentially missing the upcoming game, it’ll be either D’wan Matthis or Daniels running the offense.
Daniels is clearly itching to get on the field, but Georgia has been patient with the USC transfer quarterback. Come Saturday, it could be time for the former 5-star prospect to hit the field and show the SEC what he’s made of.
