The Masters sleeper No. 5: Louis Oosthuizen (+6000)

Throughout his career, Louis Oosthuizen has been a bit of a big-game hunter, showing up in the major championships and threatening. While he only has the 2010 Open Championship to his credit in terms of major victories, he has finished second in all four majors in his career — The Masters included back in 2012 — only the seventh player to ever hit that mark.

But more than that, Oosthuizen definitely checks the box for having played well at Augusta. Since finishing second in 2012, he’s only missed the cut once (the following year) and has only two finishes outside the top 25 and only one outside the top 30. He may not have a victory yet but he has undoubtedly found plenty of success at this venue.

That course knowledge here is always extremely valuable but so too is the strength of Oosthuizen’s game. He’s an elite ball-striker with his irons and, while he may not be the best driver or putter in the golfing world, the South African is more than adequate in all facets of his game. He’s steady as a rock, which matters in a tournament such as this one.

Having finished third at the U.S. Open this year, it’s clear that the 38-year-old still has enough juice in the tank to compete with this generation in the right situation. This venue with his game is the right situation for him to pop up on yet another leaderboard. Don’t be surprised if Oosthuizen makes another run.
