The Masters sleeper No. 2: Scottie Scheffler (+6600)

A quick spoiler, the last two sleepers for The Masters that we’re talking about today are players who will be playing for the first time at Augusta National Golf Club. While course experience is extremely important for this tournament, the simple truth is that this odd season that we’re a part of with the event being hosted in November and amid heavy rain over the week, this could be a year where something funky happens.

In that case, you have to look at the talent and the game that these first-time players possess. You won’t find many players who, on their best day, are substantially better than Scottie Scheffler. Yes, he’s had some struggles since he was briefly sidelined with a COVID-19 diagnosis but he has slowly been regaining form.

Looking at last season, Scheffler was a dominant all-around player, especially as a tee-to-green guy. He ranked 10th in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee and 33rd in Strokes Gained: Approach. He has great distance as a big-hitter off the tee, which is critical at Augusta and can dial in his irons with the best of him. Again, his best game could be ideally suited to make noise at The Masters.

While Scheffler has not played in a ton of major championships, he did finish T4 at the PGA Championship earlier in 2020. That showed he’s not afraid of a big moment like a major when he’s up against the best in the world. If he can recover from his issues since returning to the Tour, his odds offer fantastic value for a player of his talent.
