Los Angeles Chargers: D+

Back in 2018, this franchise finished 12-4 and won a playoff game in Baltimore before being knocked off at New England in the divisional round. Since then, the Chargers have managed a combined 7-17 record and more than half of those losses (9) have come to their division rivals. Rookie quarterback Justin Herbert brings reason for optimism. But the club has struggled to close out games, squandering numerous 17-point-plus leads this year.

Los Angeles Rams: B-

Sean McVay’s club has been somewhat of an enigma as the Rams have split their last six games after 2-0 start. Four of their five victories have come vs. the woeful NFC East and another where is this there XXX. But quarterback Jared Goff has had his issues at times and has eight of the club’s 12 turnovers. Aaron Donald is tied for the league lead with nine sacks and the defense has improved. Only the Ravens are allowing fewer points per game this year.

Miami Dolphins: A-

The team has turned to rookie Tua Tagovailoa the last two games – both resulting in wins. The former University of Alabama signal-caller was impressive in Sunday’s 34-31 triumph in Arizona. But the story of Brian Flores’ Dolphins – who have already matched last season’s victory total – has been a defense that more times has risen to the occasion. A pass rush that managed an NFL-low 23 sacks a season ago has already totaled 20 quarterback traps.
