19. NFL All-Time Power Rankings: Tennessee Titans

  • Established: 1960
  • Playoff Appearances: 23
  • Division Titles: 9
  • MVPs: 2 (Earl Campbell in 1979 and Steve McNair in 2003)
  • Hall of Famers: 9
  • Championship Game Appearances: 9
  • AFL Championships: 2 (1960, 1961)
  • Super Bowl Appearances: 1 (1999)
  • Legacy Points: 62

Our run through original AFL franchises continues with the Tennessee Titans, who score a ton of points for their years as the Houston Oilers. Both of the franchise’s championships came in the AFL as they won the first two AFL titles and that success carried over into the NFL.

The Oilers gave us a legendary MVP in Earl Campbell, who for 1,697 yards and 19 touchdowns for Houston in 1979. Steve McNair also shared MVP honors with Peyton Manning in 2003 just four years after the Titans came up one yard short of forcing the first overtime in Super Bowl history.

Kevin Dyson’s failure to get out of Mike Jones’ tackle as time expired cost the Titans a chance to win a Super Bowl, which would have pushed them up a spot in these rankings. Tennessee fell just short of a trip to the Super Bowl last year but their hot start has them in position to make another title run in 2020.
