18. NFL All-Time Power Rankings: Buffalo Bills

  • Established: 1960
  • Playoff Appearances: 19
  • Division Titles: 10
  • MVPs: 2 (O.J. Simpson in 1973 and Thurman Thomas in 1991)
  • Hall of Famers: 10
  • Championship Game Appearances: 8
  • AFL Championships: 2 (1964, 1965)
  • Super Bowl Appearances: 4 (1990-1993)
  • Legacy Points: 63

Our third straight original AFL franchise to slot into the countdown is the Bills, who have a pair of AFL titles to their name. Buffalo also saw O.J. Simpson become the first player to ever rush for 2,000 yards in a season en route to the 1973 MVP, but the franchise is most known for losing four straight Super Bowls in the early 1990s.

That Bills’ team was loaded with talent, including future Hall of Famers like Jim Kelly and Bruce Smith as well as 1991 MVP Thurman Thomas. Unfortunately for Bills’ fans, the defeats got worse and worse after Buffalo narrowly lost to the Giants in 1990 when Scott Norwood’s potential winning field goal went wide right.

The fact that Buffalo got to four straight Super Bowls is impressive since no one else has managed to duplicate it. A win in any of the games would have made the streak more meaningful, but those failures combined with a lengthy playoff drought at the turn of the century helped anchor the Bills in the bottom half of the list.
