Cal and UCLA playing Sunday to make up for their original opponents having to cancel
Cal and UCLA are now playing Sunday after their original opponents had to cancel.
The Pac-12 was hit with several cancelations this week as Arizona State vs. Cal was called off and that was followed by UCLA vs. Utah being canceled as well.
But there is good news now for both Cal and UCLA, who are not actively dealing with COVID outbreaks. The two teams are scheduled to play each other Sunday morning at UCLA.
This is good news for both programs and especially for Cal, after their opening game against Washington was already canceled. Getting prepared for two games and having both canceled would have been a tough blow to the program.
UCLA was able to play last week and lost an exciting game to Colorado by the final score of 48-42. Right now, Pac-12 teams just getting on the field seems to be a victory.
Cal and UCLA able to play this weekend
This is not going to be an easy switch after both teams prepared for other opponents. But they will both be at the same disadvantage so it’s not like one team is going in with more preparation.
The Pac-12 only has a six-game schedule and there are already a few teams who aren’t going to reach that mark. The College Football Playoff may not be an option for the conference, but television revenue is still available by simply playing the games.
The Cal vs. UCLA matchup will be an interesting one as it begins at noon ET before the Sunday slate of NFL games. This is also another early start for fans out west as the conference tests out this new time slot.
