Edwards arguably has more upside than any prospect in this year’s draft class. That doesn’t change the fact that he also has massive bust potential. He’s worth the risk for teams armed with a top-five pick, but that doesn’t mean he’s a lock to develop into a quality player at the next level.

At the very least, any team that selects Edwards needs to understand that he’s got a lot to learn about the game. Georgia put the ball in his hands and gave him entirely too much responsibility on every possession. That allowed Edwards to sharpen his skills as an isolation scorer, but it did nothing to give him anything approximately adequate playmaking skills.

It’s likely that he can carve out a reasonable offensive role at the next level with some quality coaching. The biggest concern about Edwards at the next level should be his questionable motor. His effort waxed and waned at an alarming rate during his collegiate career. That makes his defensive tape really ugly to watch.

Edwards is going to get every opportunity to carve out a great career due to his offensive prowess. There is a chance that he shares too many similarities to Andrew Wiggins to really become a player who contributes heavily to winning though. That’s not a quality outcome for a player who has a meaningful chance to be the No. 1 overall pick.
