Georgia football: 5 Dawgs that will be future NFL stars
By John Buhler
If Tyson Campbell were to leave Georgia a year early, he would do so as a likely first-round pick. What makes Campbell such a coveted 2021 NFL Draft prospect are his length, his ability to thrive in press coverage and having ample experience playing in the SEC since his freshman year. Campbell has been a big part of the Georgia secondary since arriving on campus three years ago.
Even if he does put some bad tape out there in the latter part of the 2020 season, Campbell will likely go in the 20s because of his easily transferable skills as a cover corner at the professional level. He is at his best using his physicality and his frame to eliminate an opponent’s star receiver from coming down with the football. Campbell looks to be NFL-ready in terms of man coverage.
Where Campbell is a tad raw is in zone coverage. He tends to go off-script and can be a tad undisciplined when having to occupy a certain space. Campbell will draw flags, but will prevent completions from going to the man he is covering. The other thing that he needs to work on are his ball skills, as there are other members of the Georgia secondary infinitely better than him at it.
In a worst case scenario, Campbell will be a day two pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He should be able to contribute right away on an NFL defense. As for what his NFL ceiling is, you are looking at a 10-year pro and a guy who could make a Pro Bowl or two. If he is akin to Desmond Trufant, the Campbell is absolutely worth the first-round pick. In the right system, he could grow even more.
