After two weeks off due to COVID-19, will the Wisconsin Badgers be able to get their season back on track in their game against the Michigan Wolverines?
It’s safe to say that neither the Wisconsin Badgers or the Michigan Wolverines are happy with how the first three weeks of their seasons have gone. But, the Badgers and Wolverines have drastically different reasons for any displeasure with how the past couple of weeks have played out.
Wisconsin got its season started with a commanding win over Illinois. In that 45-7 commanding victory over the Fighting Illini, the Badgers looked like they could contend for the Big Ten championship this season. Quarterback Graham Mertz effortlessly completed 20 of his 21 passing attempts, threw five touchdowns, and guided his team to a monumental win. Then Mertz, and several other Badgers, came down with COVID-19. And the Badgers had to shut things down for a couple of weeks.
Over in Ann Arbor, the Michigan Wolverines have also had a couple of frustrating weeks. They, like the Badgers, got a notable win to start the season as they defeated Minnesota on the road. But, one week later, a Michigan State team that previously lost to Rutgers came in and took down the Wolverines in Michigan’s home opener. Just last week, Michigan lost by 17 points to Indiana in a game the Hoosiers controlled from start to finish.

Given Michigan’s recent struggles, it’s hard not to pick against the Wolverines in this game. While Indiana very well might be a good team, a loss to Michigan State this season is inexcusable, especially considering that Rutgers was able to best the Spartans. There’s a very good chance that this is a close one for a few quarters given that the Badgers have had a few weeks off, but Wisconsin should come out on top and cover the spread.
