Heisman watch candidate No. 8: D’Eriq King, QB, Miami

Admittedly, D’Eriq King and the Miami Hurricanes put themselves behind the 8-ball on Saturday as they trailed Virginia Tech on the road late in Week 11. But as has been the case throughout the Hurricanes’ 7-1 start to the season that still has them ranked in the top 10, King stepped up in the biggest moment and delivered a game-winning touchdown pass to keep an outside chance at winning the ACC alive.

King completed 24-of-38 passes for 255 yards with the aforementioned touchdown while also rushing for another score in the 25-24 win. Truth be told, King’s numbers may not compare to someone like Howell but his moxie and performances are superior. And 20 touchdowns with over 2,500 total yards isn’t anything to scoff at either.

Heisman watch candidate No. 7: Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati

The result of the Cincinnati Bearcats’ matchup on Friday night with an East Carolina team that was 1-5 coming into the game wasn’t in question. Having said that, quarterback Desmond Ridder had a prime opportunity to keep climbing up these rankings in the Heisman watch and he came up with the type of performance you want to see from a candidate against an inferior opponent.

Torching the Pirates with both his arm and legs, Ridder went 24-of-31 for 327 yards and three scores through the air while also rushing for 75 yards on eight carries with another score. Leading the way for the 7-0 Bearcats, Ridder has over 1,900 total yards with 23 total touchdowns and just six interceptions. With his play improving each week for an undefeated team, he’s on the ascent in this race.
