Heisman watch candidate No. 4: Zach Wilson, QB, BYU

Another Heisman candidate who had a scheduled week off, BYU Cougars quarterback Zach Wilson got some much-deserved rest on the heels of moving his team to 8-0 on the season in a triumphant performance in the biggest test of the season for the Cougs. Wilson was phenomenal as he threw for 360 yards and totaled four touchdowns in a 51-17 rout of Boise State on the blue turf.

Wilson has been an elite performer all year long. Leading BYU to a perfect start over eight games, the quarterback has 2,512 passing yards with 22 scores and only two picks in addition to 158 rushing yards with eight more touchdowns. The Cougars only have two games left and Wilson should put up huge numbers against some relatively light competition but he’s more than earned a finalist spot given what he’s done this year.

Heisman watch candidate No. 3: Kyle Trask, QB, Florida

Playing against an Arkansas team who’s performed well above expectations this season and with star tight end Kyle Pitts ruled out due to a concussion, there were some questions about what Florida Gators quarterback Kyle Trask would look like on Saturday. The answer was that he continued to look like a leading Heisman Trophy candidate as he unfurled another stellar performance with monster numbers.

Trask completed 23-of-29 passes for 356 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions. That’s most impressive when you consider it’s almost par for the course with how he’s performed throughout the Gators’ 5-1 start. The senior quarterback now has 2,171 yards with 28 touchdowns and three interceptions on the year, keeping him on the heels of the top two in this race.
