Ravens tight end Nick Boyle took a hit to the leg against the Patriots and had to be carted off the field.

It’s never a good sign when players immediately signal for trainers on the sideline to attend to an injured opponent.

When Ravens‘ tight end Nick Boyle was hit hard on his plant leg as he hauled in a catch against the Patriots, New England’s defenders knew immediately something was very wrong.

The video is not safe for work as Boyle’s leg looked seriously injured on the play. You can watch it here.

Nick Boyle had to be carted off the field because of his injury

Obviously, more will be revealed about the extent of Boyle’s injury, but it didn’t look good at all for the tight end.

The Ravens officially ruled him out for the rest of the game with a “knee injury” shortly after he left the game.

Boyle has spent all six years of his career with the Ravens, who drafted him out of Delaware in 2015. He has started 49 games for the franchise since.

While normally deployed as a blocking tight end, Boyle has 14 catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns this season. It’s doubtful he’ll get to add to that total.

The Ravens list just one other tight end on their depth chart. Mark Andrews, who is in his third year out of Oklahoma, will have to make up for the loss of Boyle on the blocking front. He has made his mark this season as a pass-catcher with 297 yards and five touchdowns, but he only has one start to his name.

On Sunday, Andrews had five catches for 47 yards, so the Ravens are obviously comfortable with him on the field. Boyle’s absence is more likely to negatively impact the rushing attack.
