Patrick Mahomes sends message to Alex Smith ahead of first start since horrific leg injury
Fans across the country can’t wait to see Alex Smith make his first start in two years, including Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The long wait is finally over for Alex Smith, who has fought back in incredible fashion to get himself back on the gridiron. After suffering a gruesome injury that nearly cost him his leg, Smith got back on the field earlier this year in an emotional return.
Now, with Kyle Allen out for the season, Smith is all set to start on Sunday for the Washington Football Team against the Detroit Lions. It’ll mark the first time in two years Smith will start a game. There are countless folks out there who are ready to cheer him on, including former teammate and superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

During his rookie season, Mahomes watched from the sidelines when Smith was the starter in Kansas City. The veteran helped show the reigning Super Bowl MVP the ropes, which of course helped them develop a strong bond.
Mahomes took over the offense after his rookie season and hasn’t looked back, leading the Chiefs to a Super Bowl win last winter. The team rewarded his incredible play with a $502 million contract.
For Smith, he’s no doubt been happy to see Mahomes have so much success. At the same time, he’s worked around the clock to get himself back to this position of starting a game. The man nearly lost his leg, and underwent dozens of surgeries to save it. Now, Smith is continuing to defy the odds, as he’ll lead the Washington Football Team out onto the field on Sunday.
It’ll be great to see, and all of Smith supporters will be ecstatic if he powers his team to victory. The list will of course include Mahomes.
