NBA Twitter can’t believe the contract James Harden just turned down

James Harden just turned an absurd contract offer from the Rockets.

Harden wants out badly, as the Beard views joining the Brooklyn Nets as his best chance at winning an NBA Title. Joining forces with the likes of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in the city that never sleeps would form a Big 3 the likes of which the NBA has never seen. This, of course, isn’t based on pure talent, but the simple concept that there is only one basketball and three ball-dominant players predicated on scoring that ball.

The Rockets offered Harden $50 million per season in a two-year extension to his deal, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Harden has turned that down, opting to pass on more money and chase a dream — his first NBA title. It’s admirable when you think of it, at least until you realize how much money Harden is making in his current contract. But nonetheless! Seeing a blank check (or $50 million check, in this case) and walking away from the table takes gall. Like him or not, Harden has plenty of that.

Harden’s fit in Brooklyn is intriguing. As previously mentioned, he’ll have to coexists with two other players used to having the ball in their hands. Also, the Nets have a first-year coach in NBA legend Steve Nash. It all makes for an interesting year on the L train, should the Rockets give in to Harden’s demand.
