The Texas A&M football game vs. Ole Miss is postponed due to Aggies players in quarantine.

Texas A&M won’t play Ole Miss this weekend but may reschedule the game on Dec. 19.

The SEC announced the postponement of the No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies’ home game vs. the Ole Miss Rebels on Monday morning. This was the second game of the Week 12 slate to be altered. While it was not canceled like the Arizona State Sun Devils’ game vs. the Colorado Buffaloes in the Pac-12, this game could be rescheduled only if it is necessary for Texas A&M’s playoff push.

Texas A&M still has to make up a game vs. Tennessee tentatively on Dec. 12

Thus far, the SEC has yet to cancel a college football game this season. While the league has had six games postponed, including four last week, the Power 5 conference wisely added flexibility to allow as many games as possible to be played. While the Aggies are the No. 5 team in the country, they desperately need to get to 9-1 if they want any hope of making the College Football Playoff.

Texas A&M’s only loss this season was to the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide, a team expected to win the SEC West and reach the playoff as Power 5 champion. The Aggies could get in as a No. 4 seed if they were to go 9-1 and the Big 12 and Pac-12 do not get a team in. However, being able to get to 9-1 is becoming increasingly difficult for the Aggies to accomplish, given their internal outbreak.

Texas A&M had Week 11’s road game vs. the Tennessee Volunteers postponed due to positive coronavirus tests. It has been tentatively rescheduled for Dec. 12. Assuming the Aggies do not have any more games postponed, they could complete their 10-game season by hosting the Rebels on Dec. 19. This game would only happen if Texas A&M needs it to make the playoff.

The SEC made the right call here to postpone, but the Aggies now have no margin for error.
