Win or lose, the Bears could be forced to replace Nick Foles

While the Chicago Bears lost Monday 19-13 to the Minnesota Vikings, that was a footnote on the outcome during the team’s final drive.

With less than a minute left, Nick Foles would be body-slammed to the ground by Ifedi Odenigbo. After several minutes of failing to get up, he would be carted off by the Bears medical staff. Tyler Bray would come in to close things out.

Depending on the severity of the injury, Chicago could be in the market for another quarterback. Mitchell Trubisky still is recovering from a shoulder injury, otherwise this would be a moot point. And with the trade deadline well past, free agency is the only way the Bears likely will be adding a name.

At 5-5, Chicago is far from out of the postseason, but every game becomes a must-win situation moving forward. Without the right pocket-passer, the Monsters of Midway likely will be nothing more than a teddy bear teams clobber on their way to an easy win moving into the final month of play.

Who should the Bears consider adding at quarterback?

3. DeShone Kizer

The last time anyone saw Kizer suiting up in a starting role, everyone was watching Corey Coleman drop a fourth-down pass to cement an 0-16 season for the Cleveland Browns. A second-round pick and another bust at quarterback in Cleveland’s history books, the 24-year-old hasn’t been on an NFL roster since his release from the Raiders this offseason.

As a Notre Dame alum, Kizer played just several hours away from Soldier Field. During his two years as the team’s starter, the former Fighting Irishman threw for a career 45 touchdowns and over 5,500 yards. Add in his ability to extend plays outside the pocket and there’s something there.

Kizer’s a young name that will at least add something to Chicago’s offense. That has to be a win in some category, right?
