NBA Offseason 2020: 5 potential landing spots for Carmelo Anthony
By Mike Luciano
While it’s been almost a decade since Anthony was wearing Denver Nuggets blue, he was one of the best scorers in the league for the first 7.5 years of his career there. His forced trade to the New York Knicks opened up some wounds that time has not yet mended back together, but Carmelo has expressed a desire to return to Denver. Given the way that this roster is constructed, there is a spot for a 6-foot-8 forward who can handle the ball and shoot, meaning that this reunion might finally happen.
Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic finally started to get the hype they deserved when they managed to take down the LA Clippers in dramatic fashion to advance to the conference finals. This team is ready to win now, and Carmelo might be the final piece they need.
Even if they bring Paul Millsap back, which is looking less likely by the day, he is getting long in the tooth. While Anthony is no spring chicken either, it’s clear that he is the better offensive player. Be it as a long-range gunner or mid-range specialist who can finish off of Jokic’s crisp passes, Melo’s second act in Denver might be enough to get them to a championship.
