This week, the European Tour presents the Draftkings/DFS community with the Joburg Open. Let’s take a look at this event from a fantasy golf perspective!

Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections I wanted to clearly state that the purpose of this article is not to provide a specific lineup. Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a Draftkings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

Here are my Draftkings player selections for the Joburg Open!

Marcus Armitage $9,800

The 33 year old Englishman arrives at this week’s European Tour event on the heels of four consecutives top 14 finishes, including a seventh place result at the Scottish Championship.

It should be noted that Armitage fired a final round 66 at last month’s Italian Open en route to an eventual tenth place finish. Upon the completion of four rounds of play at the Italian Open, in relation to the field, Armitage ranked 13th in GIR (greens in regulation-72.25%) and seventh in strokes gained approach (1.38).

Armitage also finished fifth at the 2017 Joburg Open.

MJ Daffue $8,700

The South African has some quality finishes on the PGA Tour this year. He finished 22nd at the Workday Charity Open in July. More recently, Daffue finished 12th at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

I decided to dive into the player statistics from the Sanderson Farms Championship to see how Daffue performed compared to his fellow competitors. Upon completion of four rounds of play at the Sanderson Farms Championship, in relation to the field, Daffue ranked fourth in GIR (greens in regulation-80.6%) and eighth in bogey avoidance (six).

It has to be said that this week’s Joburg Open field is without a doubt a clear step down with regard to the overall talent level of the field. In summary, If Daffue can secure multiple top 22 finishes on the PGA Tour, he certainly should have no issue performing well at this week’s Joburg Open.

Shubhankar Sharma $8,600

Sharma has three top 26 finishes in his last four events played on the European Tour, including a 14th place result at the Cyprus Open three weeks ago. It is also important to note that Sharma won the 2017 Joburg Open.

Jaco Ahlers $7,900

The South African plays the majority of his professional golf on the Sunshine Tour. Ahlers has four top eight finishes in his last seven events on the Sunshine Tour, including a third place finish at the Titleist Championship in September.

Ahlers has performed at a high level on the European Tour in the past. Let me provide some data to support my previous statement, Jaco finished fourth at the South African Open in January.

Jonathan Caldwell $7,200

The 36 year old has played 13 events on the European Tour since the Tour re-started the season in July. In those ten events played, Caldwell has five top 39 finishes, including a seventh place result at the Scottish Championship. It should also be noted that Caldwell made the cut in 10 of the 13 events he has played since July.
